The Obama campaign has blue grass singer, Ralph Stanley, doing radio ads in SW Virginia. Here is a link to the ad.
This willingness to press McCain in traditionally conservative areas - areas that the conventional wisdom has been saying since March that Obama had no hope in - is why Obama is beating McCain right now.

That is a magnificent radio ad! Simple and clear. Every politician wishes they could speak as straightforwardly as Ralph Stanley! There are some savvy people working for Obama in Virginia (specifically, southwest Virginia) that's for sure! Thanks for the link, RbR.
I just love it when Stanley said of Obama, "He's a good man." That's exactly what most voters want to believe about their candidate, and what McCain is trying to hustle for himself. That ad is powerful because it speaks directly to who Obama is. The ad doesn't say "He's one of us" It says "I'm one of you, and I endorse Obama because he's a good man and will bring us good change." It sounds like the same way aristocratic FDR won votes in Appalachia. No president since FDR and LBJ will have proven a better friend of Appalachia than President Obama if he is elected, I can assure you.
