Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."

A very misleading mailer

I just got this in the mail. (Click on images to enlarge)

It appears to be aimed at blacks, specifically religious blacks, in the hopes that they will be opposed to gay marriage. It features Obama on the front expressing his disapproval of gay marriage, and on the back, several black religious leaders do the same. As a bonus, the mailer adds "Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel are the only Democratic presidential candidates that support gay marriage," making it seem like a fringe position.

I believe everything on the mailer is true, but definitely misleading. Why? Because Senator Obama has repeatedly expressed his opposition to Prop 8. A quote from a spokesman and more about this mailer can be found here.

But you know, this is Obama's fault. First, he won't take the progressive position on gay marriage ... which I guess I can understand, but still. Then, he opposes this measure but has done little or nothing to back that up. What if there were an ad featuring him on TV right now saying "no on 8"? This mailer would totally lose its value.

This is going to be close. Make sure to get out and vote, California!

Yes, the forces for good in California can't just assume California is a done deal and flood into Nevada to get out the vote there. Some of you guys need to stay at home and get out the vote to defeat Prop 8.

By the way, where is Schwarzenegger? He's publicly opposed Prop 8 and he's in Ohio campaigning for McCain instead of governing California or campaigning to back up his words.

At least Obama can claim with some justification that's he's got a more important project on his plate right now. What's Arnie's excuse?

I got a similar mailer called a "California Democratic Voter Guide" that mimicked the Democratic party logos, but said in small print it was not by the CA Dem party. Very very sleazy materials by the "Yes on 8" forces. Mostly the Mormon church around here, dumping money into this proposition battle. I understand someof the No on 8 people are turning around with anti-Mormon stuff, which isn't a great idea, but it tells you the animosity they are building up. Very un-christian.
