Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."

Harold Ford... Call Me...

This ad was taken down from Tennesee airwaves today. It is said to be racist. Watch it. What do the Citizens think? My reactions: (1) It's definitely sexist as hell. (2) It kind of made me want to vote for Ford anyway, as if the tagline were, "Corker: prudish stuckup prig."

I have to admit that my first reaction was that I didn't see how it was obviously racist. But I've heard several Southerners say the racism is obvious to them. I suppose in the South they are more sensative to the "Birth of Nation" stuff.

That said, when I heard about this radio ad , I was convinced. In the ad, Corker and Ford both have musical themes. Corkers is soft violins and inspiration symphonies. But the theme for Ford sounds alarmingly like tom-toms, or "Jungle drums" as critics are saying.

Corker is playing a game where he's hinting at the race issue (i.e. don't vote for Ford or Mandingo will come and rape all the white women) but without coming out and saying it.

The sad thing is that in Tennessee (as in Virginia) accusing a white, conservative man of being racist isn't the worst thing you can do to his electability.

Senator Trent Lott, Mississippi, "If we had elected Strom Thurmond [on a segregationist ticket] in 1948, we wouldn't have had all "these problems" over all these years."

'nuff said.
