Bell Curve The Law Talking Guy Raised by Republicans U.S. West
With proper funding I'm confident this little baby could destroy an area the size of New York City. Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son." I am looking forward to an orderly election tomorrow, which will eliminate the need for a violent blood bath. I am the Lizard Queen!

CA-50 Primary Results

Results from CA-50 are in. I don't really know what to make of them. Non-republicans got about 47% of the vote, with Busby leading the pack at 44%. Is this a good sign for her? It seems that it can hardly be considered a good sign for her opponent, Brian Bilbray (who only mustered 15%).

Keep in mind that this is a heavily Republican district. Cunningham won re-election in 2004 by over 20 points. So it looks possible for Busby to win, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

Anyone else have thoughts?

I would want to know if any of the top Republican vote getters were more moderate than the ultimate Republican nominee. Were any of them pro-choice for example?

My thinking is that if there were a very moderate Republican candidate who came in with 10% of the vote or so, Busby could hope that a significant number of those Republican voters would either vote for her or stay home.

Any idea what these various Republicans think about things?

It doesn't help Bilbray that 85% of the voters did not vote for him this time, and less than a third of Repubicans voted for him. Busby needs to find another 6% of the vote. Or people need to stay home. It's quite possible, with the tiny vote for Bilbray, that the voters for Roach and others might stay home in larger numbers.

Interestingly, Bilbray is pro-choice, but he does not mention that on his website. His opponents do. Also, he is a member of the Log Cabin Republican National Advisory Board. So, just as RBR suggests, there was a Republican split. The question is whether Bilbray will win as a centrist or lose, because conservatives (who refused to vote for him two days ago) continue to do so, and stay home.

Busby needs to say that there is no such thing as a "Log Cabin" Republican. There are "Bush Republicans" and reasonable people.

The absentees and provisional votes are almost all counted. Busby v. Bilbray will be the matchup on June 6th.
