The Libertarian party just nominated former U.S. Representative Bob Barr (R-GA) for President. Apparently it took six rounds of voting to decide. In the first round, former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel (D-AK) nearly tied him. So in the end, the Libertarians poked the Republicans rather than the Democrats. Perhaps they may swing a few percent away from McCain... Who knows? Incidentally, Mr. Barr is perhaps best known for his (unflattering) appearance in Borat.

So does this make McCain Bart?
Yes, I think a Libertarian candidate whos is actually a social conservative, Southern Republican from ex-urban Atlanta is a big problem for McCain.
I can't wait to see polls from Georgia with this guy in the mix. McCain is about to have to make some difficult spending decisions.
Barr's candidacy may also make it difficult for McCain to move to the center to compete with Obama for independent voters.
Obama needs to fight like crazy to make sure that Bob Barr gets on the nationally televised debates!
I'm delighted, because it allows me to remind Libertarians that they are really just shills for right-wing agendas. They talk about freedom and all that, but basically their "hands off business" approach is exactly what right-wing Republicans really want. And that unwillingness to regulate or provide public goods and services is the cause of so many of our national ailments.
I mean, Bob freaking Barr? He's the Republican equivalent of Dick Gephardt.
