Bell Curve The Law Talking Guy Raised by Republicans U.S. West
Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."

Lasting impact of the Muhammad cartoons?

Unfortunately, this will be it. A reinforced stereotype of an Islamic culture that seems to only know one way to react -- violently. Is it true? That's not my place to say. But I guarantee you that a lot more people feel that way now than did before.

This is the last I hope we ever speak of this business on this blog. But here are some final links:

I think I speak for many Danes when I say those are some funny cartoons. The image of Queen Margrethe getting it on doggy style with a Norwegian viking was particularly hilarious. However, I think we all draw the line when it comes to suggesting that Lars von Trier would make a bad movie! Dogma is dogma after all and some things just go too far!

There is a big difference between poking fun at the queen of Denmark and Mohammad. It is interesting that Iran chose to strike back by asking for cartoons on the Holocaust and not Jesus or Mary. Why do you think that is?

The Danes aren't particularly Christian, so it's a poor way to seek revenge. Also, cartoons of Jesus and Mary are hardly new and would not prompt much more than a little guffaw.

FYI: Weekly church attendence in Denmark is about 5% (for comparison the same study had the US figure at over 40% and the Japanese figure about around 10%). The queen however is extremely popular (rock bands write songs about her - positive songs). Hans Christian Andersen is even more popular (many Danes believe he was an illigitimate royal - thus combining their two favorite things). Lars von Trier is Denmark's claim to cultural relevance. Colbert did his homework picking those subjects for his stick figure cartoons! About the only other Danish cultural icons he didn't go after were Legos and Carlsberg beer...mmmmmm beeeer.

Trust me. Making fun of Christianity in Denmark wouldn't get noticed any more than those reprinted cartoons did when it was an Egyptian paper doing it.

The fact that these radical political oportunists in the Middle East need to be so over the top in a vain attempt to shock Europeans kinda makes the point.

Oh, and by the way, 95+% of Danes are nominal Lutherans so to the extent any of them believe in any of this supernatural mumbo jumbo, they think the Cult of Mary is heretical anyway.

Speaking of the Colbert Report , here is one for Dr. Strangelove . When you get to the link, hit the segment called "Kidding" right after Threat Down. The Word is "Eureka".
