Eunice Kennedy Shriver died. Following the tragic experiences her family went through with her sister, Rosemary, Eunice Kennedy Shriver helped to found the Special Olympics. Her daughter, Maria Shriver, is the first lady of California (and aside from having horrible taste in husbands) is an accomplished woman in her own right.
Often overshadowed by her husband (who helped found the Peace Corps) and brothers Jack, Bobby and Teddy, Eunice Kennedy Shriver was a remarkable public servant. Her good works have positively influenced people not just in the United States but around the world.

A puritan would mutter that the Kennedys, for all the good they did, are still being punished for old Joe Kennedy's sins. For my part, I find myself moved by the tragedy that haunts this family. It is almost as if nothing can expiate a curse on them. America is the poorer for her loss, indeed.
Truly is a family of tragedy...certainly more than any one family should ever have to endure...Boston should have never sold the Babe...perhaps the curse runs deeper than anyone imagined!
But on a more somber note, America is indeed poorer for her loss...couldn't agree more.

This comment is so awesome I just had to repeat it. Thanks, WW, for making me sputter with laughter and almost dump my late-afternoon coffee over the keyboard!
Given Babe Ruth's well known life style choices involving hard partying and booze, and given Joe Kennedy's profession in the 20s and 30s, what do you think the chances are that they actually met? I'm guessing about 60% chance of meeting and no more than one degree of separation.
LTG...glad you got a good yuck!
RBR...funny you should say that...fact is, they did meet. Kennedy signed Ruth to an option to make a movie...good snag!
