While I'm indulging in wild speculation... I wonder if these combinations would work. Janet Napolitano has been mentioned as a VP or Presidential candidate for some time, and could provide additional female appeal for Obama--who is looking like the new front-runner in the Democratic race. I cannot see him picking a Washington insider, not after Iowa voted so strongly for "change"--and that rules out all remaining Democratic hopefuls, I think. On the other hand, if Hillary sticks it out and pulls off a win, Gen Wesley Clark, who endorsed Hillary months ago, would provide additional national security credentials.

That's strike one. If her brother is a neo-con, she could be too.
The complement Obama needs experience in foreign policy and government. He could also use a white man. Wesley Clark, who could change horses easily, might begin to fill the bill. Richardson might. Biden might be able to as well. A small potatoes gov like Napolitano or Sebelius would be poor choice, I think, for want of experience and the gender thing. I personally think Wesley Clark would be ideal.
LTG is right. Generally, people don't worry about foreign policy except experience during an unpopular war in which case they often vote against it.
Tom Vilsack (another Clinton supporter) would be a good match for Obama.
If you are insisting on foreign policy chops, Biden would be a good choice.
If Obama's entire campaign is about change, do you think he would want a running mate who's been in the Senate for the past 30-some-odd years? Clark can at least make the claim to being an outsider. Maybe Richardson too.
We're getting way ahead of ourselves, of course, but it's fun.
I see Bell Curve's point, and I thought about it, but even those who want change also want stability. We are schizophrenic that way. So that's why Obama could use a more establishment figure.
Vilsack? He's probably way too much in HRC's camp. Of all the endorsers of candidates nationwide, only he, in Iowa, actively worked to hurt Obama. Also, no foreign policy experience. That hurts. Curious - I thought you, RBR, were not fond of Vilsack.
I think he's a good move if domestic/economic issues dominate, because he's got some chops there.
What about George Mitchell?
