Bell Curve The Law Talking Guy Raised by Republicans U.S. West
Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son."

Good for him.

Chirac falls for 'Canadian PM' radio prank

No, not the fact that he fell for the prank. The part of the article I liked best was this:

When Audette finally revealed himself as a bogus prime minister, Chirac burst out laughing.

"In any case, know that my friendship for Canada and the new conservative government is a real friendship and without reserve," he said.
(My emphasis added).

It's so nice to see a head of state not taking things so seriously all the time.

I'm surprised they haven't managed to punk Bush before. But then, maybe it's just much easier to call the President of France. Who else is trying?

When I lived in France, Bell Curve, there was a commercial that ran a clip of Bill Clinton busting out laughing as he put his arm around Boris Yeltsen. Yeltsen had just lectured the media about their disrespect the the President in their silly reporting abotu his personal matters. And something he said, which I don't remember now, caused Clinton to bust out laughing.

I was in a classroom in France and I heard one student say to another, "Clinton is just great! Can you imagine Chirac doing that, laughing like that?"

I guess there is no need to imagine.

Gore has a sense of humor too. I saw a dinner where he and George II Bush were supposed to tell humorous annecdotes. Gore got up and said in an exagerated monotone drone: "I know that some people are saying that I exagerate. Let me just say that anyone who says I exagerate wants nothing short of the complete destruction of our American way of life."

Bush got up and told a bunch of tired old jokes about how stupid Democrats are. The jokes were predictable and mean spirited and in no way self depricating. Of course not, Bush is far too insecure to be self-depricating.

Of course as we know now, Gore wasn't joking.

Sure, Chirac burst out laughing--I read the article. But you know damned well that as soon as he put down the phone, he turned to his aides and said, "How did zey get zis number? Ze private line is zupposed to be private! Heads will roll!"

For, you see, he speaks to his aides in English but with a terrific French accent.

"We are so poor, we do not even have a language! Just this stupid accent..." [Mme. DeFarge, History of the World, Part I (Mel Brooks)]

Did anyone see Benard-Henri Levy's interview with Jon Stewart? Talk about an accent! God, i am glad I speak French because having to listen to the English is pretty hard on the ears.

But, in fairness, I have heard some anglophones speak French so badly that it is like fingernails on a chalkboard!

It depends on who's speaking English with a French accent.

Trust me...

There is a Spanish proverb that says "Spanish is for lovers, German is for horses, and English is for geese."

Bush must be impeached.

Oh, Bell Curve, I do know that it depends on whose mouth it is coming out of. Don't underestimate us women.
