Well, he's kind of had it in for me ever since I accidentally ran over his dog. Actually, replace "accidentally" with "repeatedly," and replace "dog" with "son." |

That research lab suddenly getting refunded is a perfect example of the Potemkin world that Bush lives in. I bet you dollars to donuts that they get their funding taken away again within the year when the press isn't looking.

Stop with the "dollars to donuts" phrase. It bugs me for some reason.
And I think the first funny was funnier than the bonus funny. Just like an old communist régime game.
It reminds me of something Molly Ivins wrote. She mentioned that while governor in Texas, Bush visited a rehab clinic. He was genuinely impressed with it and sang its praises publicly. Then in the very next budget round, he cut funding that basically closed this clinic. She used the story to show how Bush doesn't see the connection between his actions and the end result. She insisted that Bush isn't stupid and he's not mean. He just doesn't see the connection. Call me crazy, but I call that the very definition of stupid. Either that or it is a learning disability.

Molly Ivins is getting soft. I view Bush's action described above as unadulterated cynicism. It is the same basic dishonesty that pervades his administration. Say whatever is popular. Get the good photo op. Then secretly do whatever you really want to do. And, if necessary, lie about it all.
