Well, I guess people are getting sick of comparing others to Hitler. Because the real chic thing to do now is compare people to Jesus. Exhibit A is Terrell Owens, comparing himself to Jesus. Why? Because people are "hating on" him, just like they did to Jesus. The difference is, Owens has a multi-million dollar contract and is holding out for more money, whereas Jesus had few possessions at all (excepting an episode with expensive perfume, of course).
Exhibit B? Look no further than Orrin Hatch, comparing Judge Roberts to Jesus!
I think senators can ask any questions they want. I've said, no matter how dumb the question may be. But the, the nominee doesn't have to answer them and he should not, under the canons of judicial ethics, he should not answer questions on any issue that possibly would come before the Supreme Court. Otherwise, he would be foretelling how he would vote on those issues and then they would hold that against him. So it's a little bit like Biblical Pharisees, you know, who basically are always trying to undermine Jesus Christ, you know, it goes on the same way. If they can catch him in something, they can then criticize -- and the outside groups will go berserk. And that's that what drives the People for the American Way, the Alliance for Justice, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. They're against any Republican. We knew that just no matter who it was -- it could be the greatest person in the world, and Roberts is, is that -- they would come out against him.
Beautiful.
What could Roberts say that the Republicans don't want us to learn? Now I'm extremely curious.

Terrel Owens, he suffered minor irritation that might make himself even richer.
Oren Hatch is often mentioned as a "reasonable" Republican with whom Democrats can negotiate. When he says stuff like this he makes my point for me that there is no such thing.

I suppose it never occurred to Orrin Hatch that Jesus never said, "I can't prejudge the issues or speak to specific fact situations."
And Jesus' reception by "the committee" was quite a bit different than the one Hatch hopes Roberts will receive.

But look at the rhetoric! Democrats, or anyone who wants to ask a question, are a bunch of Pharisees?
They are turning the Bible into a marketing tool. That is what is interesting and scarry here.
They don't want Roberts asked ANYTHING. Listen to this story from NPR Yesterday. You will hear Charles Schumer tell us what he will and will NOT ask. ALl of them sound reasonable. Then you will hear Orin Hatch say pretty much that (shock! Gasp) Democrats are really seeking to expose the nominee's political leanings! OHMAHGOD! Imagine!

Democrats should get extremely upset and demand Orrin Hatch apologize for this remark. Calling Democrats pharisees for asking questions is out of bounds. But then Democrats should go on the attack, too. They should not just be defensive:
"Orrin Hatch wants to talk about Pharisees? Well let's see what Jesus said about hypocrites, liars, and those who parade their faith in public. The real pharisees are these sanctimonious conservatives who talk about Jesus all the time to get votes." That's what I want to hear.

Bravo, LTG! My thoughts exactly.

Nice way of putting it, LTG. Of course, Hatch will just claim his remarks are taken out of context... because in today's society, unless you actually say "Democrats are Pharisees" then you can claim your words were taken out of context and the TV stations need to give you equal time for your point of view. I wish news organizations would realize that half truth and half lies is not "balanced."
I wish the American public would realize that, Dr. S.

Hell, I've seen Republicans read the entirity of an offensive quotation with all the possible context included and they say, "I was taken out of context."
