Hi Everyone,
There seems to have been something like a botched terror attack on the London mass transit system (Gee, might the Saudis be behind this after all? Why this obsession with blowing up mass transit?) . No casualties are reported and the bombs seem not to have gone off properly. There are rumors that failed suicide bomber(s) have been arrested in a London hospital. They also have recovered the fizzled bombs complete with forensic evidence such as finger prints etc. This could turn out to be a huge break in the effort to identify, locate and arrest those behind these attacks.
So now John Roberts is off the headlines and the topic is terrorism again. We'll see if next week Karl Rove doesn't pop up in the news again. My impression is that the journalists are personally ticked off by this whole CIA leak case and won't let it go for long. Obviously things like USSC appointments and terrorist attacks are too big to ignore but with no casualties and the confirmation hearings not slated until Labor Day, Rove will be the flavor of the month of most of August.
Good that there were no casualties in London!

Botched Terror Attack?

Harry Shearer has it right : you like to the Washington press corps, they'll make you pay. Rove will be back in the news before we know it.

I think it goes deeper than just being lied to. They blame the White House for two of their friends being threatened with jail or actually sent there.
If I know Republicans (and I think I do), they are shocked at the reaction. They will run around looking for explanations and conclude that the only possible reason for the press being upset at being jailed because Karl Rove broke the law is that they are a bunch of biased liberals.
BOMBING UPDATE: 1 injury, no deaths, no arrests so far.

It is extraordinary that Matt Cooper may have been willing to go to jail for Karl Rove. Isn't it?

In August, the press corps and most Washington staff go on vacation. There will be lots of canned pre-plannned "analysis" of Roberts, the Court, etc. For better or for worse, I think Karl Rove's treason will be off the burner until after labor day.
UNLESS the SC hearings take place in August. Then, the press corps will come back in town.

So who is Judith Miller going to jail to protect? That's the $100,000 question now.
A new memo has come out today. It clearly identifies Plame as someone whoes identity is to be kept secret. This was a memo from the State Department to the White House I think. So Rove may be back in the news by Friday!

Miller is going to jail because she promised to not divulge her source. It must not be Rove, since he told Cooper to talk to the Grand Jury (since those proceedings are secret). Keep in mind that during the WMD argument, Miller was writing pro-War editorials, helping the Administration's cause. Apparently there is no loyalty among thieves.
I think journalists are getting tired of being kicked around (although the have allowed this to happen by continually playing softball). After all, a White House press credential was giving to Matt Gannon, for heaven's sake! What does that say about the White House attitude toward journalists?
I want to place a bet on the futures market for how long before Novak is investigated.
